CVR Energy, Inc., a diversified company, operates through its subsidiaries primarily focusing on petroleum refining and the production of nitrogen fertilizers within the United States. Its business is organized into two distinct divisions: Petroleum and Nitrogen Fertilizer. The Petroleum segment is responsible for processing crude oil into marketable products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, and various other refined fuels, which it then distributes. This division manages and operates a sophisticated coking refinery in southeast Kansas, designed to handle medium-sour crude, alongside another crude oil processing facility located in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. Crucial logistical infrastructure also supports these operations. The Nitrogen Fertilizer division encompasses a North American production facility that utilizes a pet coke gasification process to convert pet coke into nitrogen-based fertilizers. Furthermore, it operates a facility in East Dubuque, Illinois, which specializes in manufacturing nitrogen fertilizers in the form of both ammonia and urea ammonium nitrate (UAN). UAN products are predominantly supplied to the agricultural sector, while ammonia finds application in both farming and diverse industrial settings.
