Market cap calculator
Market capitalization is share price times shares outstanding. Use any numbers, or load a ranked company to fill the snapshot price. The ranking cap is shown for comparison. An optional target cap is divided by the share count you enter; this tool does not invent a share count from the ranking. Values in USD. Informational only; not investment advice.
Market cap = share price × shares outstanding
Implied share price = target market cap ÷ shares outstanding
How to calculate market capitalization
- Enter the share price. Type the current share price in USD. Grouping commas and a leading $ are fine.
- Enter shares outstanding. Type the full share count, not millions or billions. Do not divide ranking market cap by price to invent a share count.
- Read the market cap. The calculator multiplies the two numbers. You can load a ranked ticker to fill the snapshot price only.
- Optional: enter a target market cap. With a share count entered, the implied share price is target cap divided by shares. Empty shares leave this blank.
Frequently asked questions
- How do you calculate market cap?
- Multiply the current share price by the number of shares outstanding. A company trading at $200 a share with 1.5 billion shares has a market cap of $300 billion.
- Why doesn't this match the ranking?
- The ranking uses the data provider's company market cap from the snapshot, with share classes combined so each company appears once. This calculator is the price you enter times the share count you enter, which may be one class only.
- How do dual-class shares affect the calculation?
- Full-company market cap adds every class: price times shares for each class, then sum. Dividing the ranking cap by one listing's price is not shares outstanding. This calculator never does that.
- What would the share price be at a $1 trillion valuation?
- Divide the target market cap by shares outstanding. With 1.5 billion shares, a $1 trillion cap implies a share price of about $666.67. The calculator does not invent a share count from the ranking.
- Is this investment advice?
- No. The calculator is for general informational and educational purposes only. It is not a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security.
